Mountain View Humane (MVH)

Mountain View Humane (MVH) is embarking on a milestone of 100,000 spay/neuter surgeries performed on dogs and cats since our inception as a 501(c)3 organization in 2010. Quality of care always comes first at MVH. We are a high-quality, affordable spay/neuter and pet wellness clinic in Christiansburg, Virginia. We strive to end pet overpopulation in southwest Virginia through spay/neuter surgery for companion pets and community cats.

MVH raises funds to subsidize the cost of spay/neuter surgery. In 2023, 51% of our clients received financial aid provided by a subsidy fund. This includes companion pets and feral cats brought to MVH for surgery. We provide subsidies to qualified individuals to reduce our already low fees and ensure that every responsible pet owner can afford our vital services, regardless of their ability to pay.

How Your Donations Help

Our 2005 box truck is reaching the end of the trail. Purchasing a “new” truck and outfitting it with kennels and a reliable HVAC system for our four-legged passengers would be a dream come true!

Your donations have made an enormous impact on changing the lives of 100,000 animals! Over the past 14 years we have learned that not everyone has a way to bring their companion pet to our clinic. Lack of transportation, availability of care, and cost of surgery can be daunting barriers to providing this lifesaving procedure to their pet. 

MVH transports 80 to 100 animals to our clinic each month from individuals in rural communities and shelter pets from facilities in southwest Virginia. By transporting these animals to our clinic and returning them home again, we log 400 to 500 miles on our vehicles each month. 

In addition, your contribution can help provide wellness exams, vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, and even pet food to cats and dogs who deserve to be happy and healthy. Your donation will allow us to keep our operations going at total capacity and to help more pets in our community live their healthiest lives! Thank you!

Spay and Neuter

Spay/neuter is a simple solution to the complex problem of the euthanasia epidemic, which destroys 2.7 million animals each year and is a direct result of animals left unaltered in communities. We strive to sterilize any dog or cat that needs it, regardless of the owner's ability to pay. 

Benefits of Spay and Neuter

• Your pets will live longer, healthier lives. Did you know spay and neuter can prevent many diseases and behavior issues with your companion animals?
• Breast cancer in your female dog is nearly eliminated if she is spayed before her 1st heat cycle. Even if she is spayed after her first cycle, spaying reduces the risk of cancer.
• Neutering your male companion prevents testicular cancer, perianal tumors, and some prostate problems.
• Your spayed female pet won't go into heat. 
• Your male dog will be less likely to roam away from home.
• Spay and neuter helps to reduce uterine infections.
• Spay and neuter may help eliminate unwanted behaviors like marking or aggression.
