Plenty!

Plenty! nourishes community and preserves Floyd County traditions by encouraging neighbors to grow and share food while enlivening the greater conversation about sustainable food practices. We operate Floyd County's largest Food Pantry, a Portable Produce delivery program, an organic Community Farm, and weekly Community Lunches in the summer and monthly soup meals in the winter. Cooking, growing and nutrition educational programming targets our two most vulnerable populations: children and the elderly. 

Last year was our 8th operating a “free choice” food pantry and the 6th in our permanent home 3 miles north of downtown Floyd. Plenty! provided 1,800 unduplicated individuals with 131 tons of food.

For some, particularly our senior patrons, Plenty! is a reliable, ongoing source of healthy food for the majority of their household’s needs. For others, Plenty! serves as a safety net for people who suddenly find themselves facing food insecurity. There is no income requirement for Plenty! programs because Plenty! recognizes that needs often arise regardless of income. 

Because of Plenty!'s ability to leverage buying power and recover food, Plenty! distributes $2.89 worth of food for every dollar we receive. Plenty! provides families with an average of 32 lbs. per visit (2-3 large grocery bags of food) with an average of value of $53.44 and enough to provide our typical senior citizen household with enough food for a week. Because we send families home with bags of groceries (including larger bags for large families), we feed an average of 2.8 people with each distribution of groceries that includes ingredients for multiple home-cooked meals per visit.
