Town of Wytheville Department of Museums

A nonprofit organization

The Haller-Gibboney Rock House Museum Stabilization and Restoration Project is ongoing to make the repairs and improvements necessary to preserve and restore the historic Haller-Gibboney Rock House Museum building. Due to the weakening of its interior structural support framework and stone foundation, the museum building has been closed to the public since 2021 while undergoing an extensive structural evaluation.

Constructed in 1823 as the home of Wytheville’s first resident physician, Dr. John Haller, the building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is Wytheville’s oldest remaining stone structure.  The Haller-Gibboney Rock House has served the community as a museum and center of educational and cultural activities since the early 1970’s. It is owned by the Town of Wytheville and managed and operated by the Town’s Department of Museums.
