Each year, the CFNRV works with generous sponsors to offer incentive grants and prizes for organizations that sign up to participate in the Giving Day. Awards range from $250 to $1,500. Check out the details below along with the rules for the event.
The Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) can modify any rules, restrictions, or conditions if, in the sole judgment of the Board of Directors, such restriction or condition becomes unnecessary, incapable of fulfillment, or inconsistent with the charitable needs of the community. As such, the CFNRV reserves the right to deny or condition the distribution of prize grants if, in the judgment of its Board of Directors, such restriction or condition becomes necessary. Four Types of Accepted Donations
Donation Window (June 1 to noon on June 25)
This year, we are offering a variety of grants and prizes, with each award ranging from $250 to $1,500.
Please note that which donations count for the grants and prizes varies. Some allow "All donations", meaning that online donations made through givelocalnrv.org and offline donations (checks, cash, or wire transfers.) Others are "Online Donations Only", meaning that only online donations made through givelocalnrv.org count.

1 grant totaling $1,500
Eligibility: All donations in the early giving period.
Details: Organization with the most money raised during the early giving period (June 1 to June 24 at 11:59a) will win this grant.
3 grants, each worth $1,500
Eligibility: All donations in both the early giving period and the Giving Day.
Details: Organization with the most money raised in each category (small, medium, & large).
3 grants, each worth $1,500
Eligibility: All donations in both the early giving period and the Giving Day.
Details: Organization with the highest number of unique (unduplicated) donors in each category (small, medium, & large).
2 grants, each worth $1,000
Eligibility: The two organizations that best embody the spirit of GiveLocalNRV.
Details: As decided by the CFNRV team. What do we look for? Organizations that go above and beyond for the event. Things that catch our eye for these grants are engagement from organizations at Giving Day trainings, nicely laid out organization pages, doing a good job communicating (via email and/or social media), creating an in-person event, etc.
Both online and offline donations count for these awards, but organizations have to meet specific criteria to qualify for the award. For the category-specific grants: your organization's category is determined by the thematic area your organization selected in the sign-up process.

Eligibility: Sign up for the 2026 Giving Day by 4/1 for a chance to win.
Details: Random chance drawing. Winners will still be eligible to win additional awards (up to one grant and one prize).
6 prizes, each worth $250
Eligibility: ONLINE DONATIONS ONLY during the Early Giving period. Each week of this period (6/1 - 6, 6/7 - 13, 6/14 - 20), two prizes will be selected
For the first prize, all organizations are eligible to win; for the second prize, only organizations with a budget size of $200K or less are eligible to win.
Details: Random chance drawing. Selected from the ONLINE DONATIONS made within the specified period.

Eligibility: All donations during the specified one-hour period. See below for this year's Power Hour schedule.
Details: Organization with the most number of unique (unduplicated) donors within the specified one-hour period.

Eligibility: All donations the early giving period & the Giving Day. Only pages set up by folks other than the organization's admins count.
Details: The top two organizations that raise the most money overall using this tool.
2 prizes, each worth $250
Eligibility: Submit a Giving Day-related photo to the CFNRV team by noon on Thursday, 6/25.
Details: Random chance, selected after the Giving Day ends. The photo must be related to the Giving Day in some way: people wearing Giving Day shirts, holding a sign with the logo, etc. Photos with the logo added via editing are not eligible.
Additional prize added! 3 prizes, each worth $250
Eligibility: ONLINE DONATIONS ONLY in both the early giving period and the Giving Day. Address determined by BILLING ADDRESS.
Details: Random chance drawings based on a billing address that is at least 2,000 miles from the CFNRV office (200 Professional Park Dr, Blacksburg).
