This fundraiser is hosted by the Women's Studies Student Club at Radford University in recognition of Dr. Mary Atwell's contribution to Women's and Gender Studies.
Dr. Atwell came to Radford University in 1988 as Associate Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. She joined the Criminal Justice Department in 1993 and retired in December of 2013. After her retirement, she continues to be active by presenting important topics related to Women's and Gender Studies. She is also a lifetime mentor for many students at Radford University.
Dr. Atwell was one of the founding mothers of the Women's Studies Program (now the Women's and Gender Studies Program) and was instrumental in the creation of the program at Radford University.
Dr. Atwell's research interests include gender and legal issues and capital punishment. Her personal interests include dogs, Jane Austen, yoga, and other escapist entertainment, and her personal goal is to live at the beach.
