Jenise's Reason 'Y'

The YMCA at Virginia Tech is the beating heart of our community.  All of my family has volunteered to help carry out the Y's mission of supporting youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility, as well as benefitted from many of its signature programs.

I don't know what our community would look like without the Y. I don't want to imagine that. True to its superpower of adaptability, the YMCA created its Meals on Main feeding program in the early days of the pandemic, knowing that families and children were not having access to food that they may have received in-person at school and through other services that had been forced to close.

It makes me proud to be part of an organization always looking for ways to best serve the community. The unique partnership with Virginia Tech sets us apart as being one of a handful of campus-based YMCAs in the country that can also create dynamic student-led programs, such as the Y Leaders program pairing college students with middle and high school-aged students to put service into action.
