What We Do
The Fine Arts Center is a cornerstone of the New River Valley. We are celebrating our 46th anniversary this year and are the longest running business operating in Pulaski's Historically Designated Commercial Business District. We survived a pandemic. We survived Main Street being closed for six months. And we keep on going!
We estimate the Fine Arts Center has touched the lives of more than 900,000 people through classes, gallery visits, performances, and special events. The Center has hosted a combination of more than 5,500 classes or programs that have promoted the work of more than 30,000 artists.
Programs:
We promote the arts and artists in and around the New River Valley of Virginia. We bring a variety of visual and performing arts to audiences of all ages. We do this by
- Offering free art classes and activities to children ages 5-12;
- Offer low-cost classes to teens and adults in a variety of media;
- Hire local artists to teach some of those classes and gain exposure;
- Promote the entrepreneurial efforts of local artists by sharing their work in our gift shop and in exhibits;
- Showcase musicians and other performers in the region through a variety of concert opportunities; and
- Support art educators within our region and throughout all of Southwest Virginia through programs such as Youth Art Month and the Scholastic Art Awards for Southwest Virginia.
Support:
The Fine Arts Center operates through generous support from contributions, grants, and memberships. The Center is governed by an all-volunteer Board of Directors, many of whom are community art or art education professionals. With only one paid staff member, we rely heavily on the efforts of volunteers to fulfill its mission. Sponsors of the Center’s many activities include the Virginia Commission for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, Town of Pulaski, Pulaski County, C.E. Richardson Benevolent Foundation, the Randolph House of Pulaski Foundation, and many individual sponsors. We are grateful for their continued support.
