For 10 years, the Fund for the NRV has powered all of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley's programs and initiatives. From underwriting the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day, to awarding more than $600,000 annually in grants and scholarships, to supporting regional collaboration around childcare, food access, and health, The Fund for the NRV's impact ripples across our community to support hundreds of organizations and individuals.

Here are just a few programs The Fund for the NRV has made possible in the last year:

Providing scholarships to 92 students 

In 2024, we are awarding more than $150,000 to 92 students. The Fund for the NRV underwrites the online application system and the Scholarship Awards Luncheon for recipients and their families. 

Addressing food insecurity through Thrive 

Dozens of food pantries, community gardens, and feeding programs come together as members of the Thrive network to provide nutritious food to neighbors in need. Partners in Giles County alone have transported more than 8 tons of fresh food from farms and gardens to food pantries. The Fund for the NRV underwrites the annual Thrive Regional Meeting and the NRV Food Assistance Directory. 

Helping nonprofits raise money with GiveLocalNRV 

More than 120 nonprofits participate in the Annual GiveLocalNRV Online Giving Day held each June. Since 2014, nonprofits have raised $3.6 million through the platform. The Fund for the NRV underwrites the GiveLocalNRV website, marketing, and technical support to nonprofits for the giving day.
