Giles County Animal Shelter Giving Tuesday 2024
A nonprofit fundraiser supporting
Giles County Animal ShelterThis Giving Tuesday, we are fundraising to renovate the old Animal Shelter for our Feline Friends!
$1,350
raised by 21 people
$10,000 goal
If you are familiar with Giles County, then you are probably aware of the overwhelming number of cats who need our help. Our goal is to renovate the former Animal Shelter structure into a FREE ROAM CAT ROOM aka THE CAT CONDO!
The building you see above is the old Animal Shelter. It sits on the same property as our current shelter, but is in such horrible shape, it only serves as storage. It has a solid foundation, but needs numerous improvements. Our current cat room is roughly the size of a storage closet with a handful of cat cages, which does not allow for proper socialization or enrichment for our feline friends. It is also located directly next to the dog kennels, which is undoubtedly stressful for any cat. The Cat Condo is a stand alone structure on the other side of the property, away from all of the barking dogs.
Per the ASPCA, Free Roaming Cat Rooms are greatly beneficial to shelter cats "because it allows cats to engage in their natural behaviors – hiding, running, climbing, jumping, elevated perching, and scratching." All of these behaviors greatly reduce the stress a cat endures while being housed at the shelter. This project will not only increase the number of cats we can help, but improve the quality of care we are able to provide them!
