Springhouse: Celebrating 10 Years of Intergenerational Vitality-Centered Learning

My name is Ambrosia Clemons (he/they) and I am 13. This is my second year at Springhouse, and I look forward to the remainder of my time here. Springhouse has been such a vital part of my life and well-being. In public school, everything was centered around testing and grades. In my experience, it was memorization rather than actual learning and education. I was in the group of people ("gifted" students) that were likely to pass the SOL testing, so I got very little attention and help from the teachers. On top of that, I witnessed a lot of bullying, discrimination, and other issues with fellow students as well as teachers. The SOL testing began in 3rd grade; the social life struggles began before that. When quarantine happened in 2020, I had to switch to virtual school. As stressful as public school testing was, virtual schooling was worse. I didn’t have to deal with peer issues, but I also did not interact with any teachers or students. I went from an all A’s student to completely failing. I had over 100 assignments that were overdue, and my grades declined almost as fast as my mental health.

In 2022, I started my first year at Springhouse. I was instantly welcomed and accepted into the community. Being queer and trans was an extra wrinkle to public and virtual school - both were very harmful to my mental wellbeing and education experience overall, but especially in the context of being LGBTQ. This is something I have never experienced at Springhouse, and I have found that my unique ways of expressing my identity are encouraged and valued rather than shut down. The staff care about me and my education, my peers are some of the kindest and most accepting people I have ever met, and I would not trade this community for anything. I truly, deeply love Springhouse, and it would mean the world to me if you could donate to support this incredible community.

Springhouse envisions a world where all life thrives and they steadily work towards this bold vision through fundamentally transforming the purpose and practice of education.

Springhouse is not just an idea, they are a learning community that is evidence of what’s possible when life is at the center. This school is a strong, local example of what it means to take care of life in a place, over time, and actively build beloved community - something the world deeply longs for. Springhouse shares their design globally, inspiring many around the world from their on-the-ground experience.

Springhouse offers a variety of programs for anyone who wants to practice living in ways that take better care of Life. Though their programs have fees, Springhouse is committed to accessibility – no one is turned away for financial reasons.

This June, Springhouse needs to raise $125,000 to meet their fiscal year budget fundraising goal. YOU can support the creative and courageous work Springhouse is doing in changing the why and how of education. This work will take generations. Your gift allows Springhouse to continue offering accessible and equitable programs for all.

Again, Springhouse needs to raise $125,000 this June in order to meet their operational budget this year. Help support this organization as they continue to actively work towards the vision of a world where all life thrives in both local and global communities!
