Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread Giving Tuesday 2024

Did you know that one in five of our neighbors struggles with food insecurity? For over 30 years, Radford-Fairlawn Daily Bread has been dedicated to alleviating hunger in our community through our two free meal programs: Meals on Wheels and Dining Room services. These programs serve residents of the City of Radford and the Fairlawn community of Pulaski County, ensuring that everyone has access to nutritious meals.

In partnership with Feeding Southwest Virginia, NRV Glean Team, local food pantries, churches, and other humanitarian organizations, we take a systemic approach to addressing the complex needs faced by members of our community. Our collaborative efforts work to ensure that no one must face hunger alone.

As the demand for our services increases, this mission becomes harder to achieve. Since 2019, we have experienced a significant reduction in donations of diverted foods from local organizations, causing our annual food costs to rise exponentially. In 2019, our food costs were $3,500; as of June 30, 2024, we’ve needed more than $40,000 to purchase food for our two programs.

Despite these financial challenges, we continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of individuals by reducing food insecurity and fostering a sense of community support. Those who visit our Dining Room or receive meals through Meals on Wheels benefit from more than just sustenance—they experience warmth, hospitality, and a connection to the community.
