The Walking With Fund

Throughout their lives, William and Loreta Walker reached out to people. They found ways to Walk With people by sharing their home, offering encouragement, providing a meal, or simply by letting them know they were cared for and loved. Through the activities supported by this fund, we hope to continue their work.

Initially, the Walking With Fund will focus on Walking With Blacksburg Middle School children by partnering with the school administration to identify opportunities that ensure low-income students can fully participate academically and socially in the life of the school. The fund also seeks ways to celebrate the many backgrounds and cultures represented at the school and help ensure all students feel included.

The specific activities supported by the fund will be determined in partnership with the faculty and staff of Blacksburg Middle School but may include support ranging from providing school supplies or winter coats to paying for books at the book fair and the cost of admission on school field trips, to providing computers, internet access, and access to summer camps. As the fund develops additional educational or other community activities may be added.

The Walking With Fund is a component fund of the Community Foundation of the New River Valley. Donors wishing to contribute by check can make their payment payable to CFNRV and mail it to PO Box 6009, Christiansburg, VA 24068-6009. Please write "Walking With" in the memo line.
