The Community Foundation of the New River Valley (CFNRV) hosts the annual GiveLocalNRV Giving Day, where organizations across our region compete for grants and prizes offered by the CFNRV and our generous sponsors. Since 2014, the event has raised more than $4.35 million for local nonprofits.

This year, the 12th annual giving day will be held starting at noon on Wednesday, June 25 and ending at noon on Thursday, June 26.

Below are answers to the top questions we get from donors.

Top Donor Questions

The minimum donation for the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day is $5. There is no maximum donation limit.

No, you can also give by check or cash for the Giving Day event. Simply drop off your donation to your favorite nonprofit by noon on June 26 for the gift to count toward their Giving Day totals.

Donations can be made via debit card, credit card (MasterCard, Visa, Discover and American Express), PayPal, Venmo, ApplePay, Google Pay and your bank account (ACH) through www.givelocalnrv.org.

For donations over $50, the website gives you the option of submitting payment through your bank account (ACH.) This could save you and/or the benefiting organization on transaction fees.

The GiveLocalNRV platform charges fees for online donation: 7.4% of the donation + .30 cents for each transaction. By having every donor chip in a small amount, everyone contributes to helping support this community-wide event.

What do the fees go toward?

  • 2.9% + 30¢ goes toward credit card processing fees.
  • 3.5% platform fee goes toward offsetting the costs of the Mightycause platform and operational costs.
  • 1% admin fee goes toward helping offset the costs of the CFNRV’s administrative support, marketing, and advertising.

A donor can choose to not pay the fees. In this case, the fees will be deducted from the donation and the organization will receive the rest of the donation. For example, if a donor gives $100 but does not want to pay the $7.70 in fees, the organization will receive a total of $92.30 from that transaction.

Fees for donations made via a bank account (ACH)
Payment by bank account is an option only for online donations $50+. For donors that give via their bank account, credit card processing fees will be replaced by a 1% transaction fee, plus a $1.50 fixed fee per transaction (total ACH processing fees will be capped at $5.00) The platform and admin fee still apply. These transactions are processed through a secure service called Plaid.

Prefer to skip the fees? Simply send or drop off a check or some cash to your favorite organization by noon on June 26.

Mightycause partners with the CFNRV to host this online fundraising platform for the GiveLocalNRV Giving Day. All transactions on the givelocalnrv.org website are processed through Mightycause, so your credit card or bank statement will reflect that.

Other Questions & Help

No, you do not need to create an account to make a donation. However, if you plan to give multiple times during GiveLocalNRV, creating an account means you only have to enter your information once. Your account also collects your tax receipts in one location and enables you to track your donation, review the charities your support and schedule future giving. You can log in to your user account with the email address used to make your donations.

Yes! You can be an ambassador for the cause(s) you care about and set up your own personalized fundraising page. To get started, you can visit the Organization Page of any nonprofit listed on GiveLocalNRV and click “Fundraise” to start the page creation process. Please note that in order to create a Fundraising Page you will be prompted to sign into your user account or create one if you don’t already have an account.

The nonprofit organization receiving the donation will receive the contact information for the donor in order to conduct follow up communications, unless the donor chooses to make an anonymous donation. As the hosts, CFNRV will also be able to view the information. Occasionally, our team sends emails to previous GiveLocalNRV donors about the event, but this does not add you to any of the regular CFNRV email lists. Additionally, we will not share or rent your information.

If you are experiencing any issues donating or with a donation you made, please reach out to our partners on this website, Mightycause, at support@mightycause.com. They will be available all 24 hours of the Giving Day event.
